Team Hope x GB
Since the inception of The Girls' Brigade, charitable work has been a core value. Being kind and simply having an awareness of those less fortunate than us, is a valuable lesson to any young person. But the true importance of our fundraising activities, is allowing our girls to see the impact their actions can have, that they can make a small difference to someone else's life.
Our Annual Charity
We are very pleased to announce that our chosen charity partner for the 2019/2020 session is Team Hope – Shoebox Appeal.
We first got to know Team Hope and the work they do with their Christmas Shoebox Appeal some years ago when many of our girls volunteered to pack the thousands of shoeboxes in their Warehouses in North & South Dublin. Some of our GB Leaders have also had the experience of actually travelling and witnessing first-hand the immense joy that receiving a Shoebox (filled in Ireland with all sorts of wondrous goodies) can bring. A truly humbling experience indeed.
Team Hope is an Irish, Interdenominational Christian Development Aid Charity, working with children, and through them, into their families and communities in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Africa.
Best known for their Christmas Shoebox Appeal, Team Hope also helps children all year round through a variety of community development projects in over a dozen countries. They have a proven history of being able to reach families facing poverty using their network of long-standing local partners. They work with people facing poverty irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity or background.
As a Christian organisation their desire is that all their activities have both a practical and spiritual benefit for volunteers and supporters in Ireland and recipients overseas.
Through a variety of fundraising events – both at Company and National level such as ‘Non-Uniform Days’, Sponsored Skipathons, Christmas Carol Singing etc, we in The Girls’ Brigade Ireland, hope to raise much needed funds for the Shoebox Appeal. The filled Shoeboxes are very generously donated by children & adults across Ireland and the ‘packers’/’checkers’ in the Warehouses are all volunteers, but the actual cost of getting the Shoeboxes to where they are going is a huge expense each year. We need to raise as much as we can to help ensure the container lorries get to the children.
We will be publishing a running total here over the coming months and we ask all to help us achieve our worthy goal. If you would like to make a donation please contact Headquarters.
