Resources for GB Leaders

Welcome to the 2020-2021 session! It will be a different session to any we've known before, with social distancing, online and outdoor classes and lots of cleaning to be done. Hopefully all the resources below will help you to make it amazing!
If there's anything else that you'd like to see available on this page please get in touch with Jemma in HQ.

In this section you will find the Returning to GB guidelines as well as supporting documents and templates to help you plan towards the safe re-opening of your Company. These documents will be updated as needed whenever public health advice changes so check back here for the most up to date versions.

Parent info on Covid-19 questionnaire is available at: www.girlsbrigadeirl.ie/parents2020/

The Programme & Training Committee have worked hard with the PE and Modern Dance Set Writers to produce the work for Session 2020/2021.

Understandably, things are somewhat different from usual in that we haven’t been able to hold Demonstration Classes for all to attend and also social distancing has been taken into account.

We hope that you’ll be able to work with and follow the sets as they are presented here.

If circumstances enable us (and if there is a requirement), we may look at holding revision classes before the end of the year. In the meantime, if you have any specific queries, please speak to a member of the Programme & Training Committee who will hopefully be able to help.

Our usual competition venue is not taking any bookings at the moment, but if all goes well, we are looking at holding all PE and Modern Dance Competitions over the Weekend of 12th, 13th, 14th March next year. We will keep you informed!

Special Arrangements for Garda Vetting of existing GB members due to Covid-19

Garda Vetting Invitation Forms and copies of ID can be scanned or photographed and forwarded to the Captain or leader in charge, who will in turn forward them to HQ. The documents must be clear and must come from a GB email address.

Original copies of Garda Vetting Invitation Forms should be kept and posted to HQ when the office re-opens.

This arrangement is only for existing GB members. New members will be dealt with on a case by case basis, please contact Jemma to discuss.

All adults who are regularly volunteering with The Girls’ Brigade Ireland must complete our Leader Recruitment process which includes Garda Vetting. Please see the Safeguarding Policy for full details.

Parents, guests etc. who are volunteering as a once-off do not need to complete Leader Recruitment, but should be supervised at all times by the regular Leaders.

Potential volunteers need to register for Trial Membership on Sportlomo and complete a Vetting Invitation Form.
Volunteers also need to provide originals and photocopies of their ID. This list explains what kinds of ID are acceptable.

Captains should meet with potential volunteers and together complete a Captain’s Recommendation form. Captains should confirm that the photocopies are true copies of the originals and sign them.

Send the two forms and the photocopies of ID together to the Child Safeguarding Team at Girls’ Brigade HQ.

Captains and new volunteers will be notified when the Garda Vetting and reference checks are complete and she can then upgrade her membership on Sportlomo to Associate/Helper/Officer as appropriate.

Volunteers Aged 16-17

Brigaders, Transition Year Students, Gaisce candidates etc. aged 16-17 need to complete Garda Vetting in order to volunteer with The Girls’ Brigade Ireland.

The girl, with her parents/guardians, should complete a Vetting Invitation Form as well as a Parent/Guardian Consent Form. The phone number and email address given should belong to the parent/guardian and not the girl herself.
Volunteers also need to provide proof of ID, original and photocopy. For under 18s ID can be a birth cert, passport, or a letter from their school principal on headed paper.

Captains should confirm that the photocopy is a true copy of the original and sign it. Send the forms and the photocopy together to the Child Safeguarding Team at Girls’s Brigade HQ.

If she wishes to continue volunteering with the Company after she turns 18 a Captain’s Recommendation Form should be submitted.

Re-Vetting

All adults who are regularly volunteering with The Girls’ Brigade Ireland must complete Garda Vetting every three years. Please see the Safeguarding Policy for full details.

They should complete a Vetting Invitation Form and provide originals and photocopies of their ID. This list explains what kinds of ID are acceptable.

Captains should confirm that the photocopies are true copies of the originals and sign them.

Send the form and the photocopies of ID together to the Child Safeguarding Team at Girls’ Brigade HQ.

Please download and complete this excel sheet with your uniform requirements, save it and email it back to Jemma at info@girlsbrigadeirl.ie. Jemma will call you back once your order is ready to confirm a collection time, or to arrange postage/courier.
The Girls’ Brigade Prayer
O God, who prepared the disciples for the coming of the Holy Spirit, make ready, we beseech You, our hearts and minds for the indwelling presence of your Son, Christ, our Lord.
Grant that the members of the Girls’ Brigade may be true and just in all their dealings, modest and gentle in all their words and ways, loving and kind to all.
Bless all others who work for the extension of Christ’s Kingdom in the lives of young people, so that finally we may all come to your blessed home in heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Explorer Prayer
Be with us heavenly Father, by day and night, in work and play, at home and in school. Keep us pure and gentle in word and thought and grant that we may be brave, happy and cheerful always for Jesus Christ’s sake, Amen.

In the centre a Cross, the symbol of Christ and His Church
Below it a Lamp, that our light might shine out upon the world
Above it a Crown, that we may own Christ as our King,
And behind it all a Torch, the flame of Christ’s living Spirit, and our devotion to Him.
Over the coming months we will be adding more visual assets all in line with the new brand. If you are looking for something specific please contact HQ.
