The girls in the 26th Girls’ Brigade Company, St. Maelruain’s in Tallaght have found a wonderful way to to support one of their leaders. Michaela Phelan is not just an Officer with Girls’ Brigade. She’s also a nurse in Tallaght University Hospital and she has been working with COVID-19 patients throughout this crisis. The girls in her GB Company were inspired by her work and wanted to help all the patients affected during this difficult time.
COVID HEARTS
Together, the girls, parents and friends from Tallaght Girls’ Brigade have knitted and crocheted 150 pairs of handmade hearts. These hearts, in beautiful shades of pink and red, have been generously donated to patients in Tallaght University Hospital.
When relatives are not allowed to visit a loved one, it can be heartbreaking for all involved. These hearts help them feel connected even though they have to stay apart. One heart is given to a patient (or placed in the palm of their hand), and the matching heart is given to their family members.
The hearts have been greatly appreciated by everyone in the hospital and we in Girls’ Brigade are very proud of our young members for getting involved in this thoughtful initiative.
