Drive-through Prizegiving for Sligo GB

This year was supposed to be full of celebrations for the 10th Company Sligo Methodist.

It is the Company’s 30th anniversary and marks the retirement of Captain Joan, and Officers Hazel and Yvonne. Joan has been a GB leader for 40 years, first in Dublin and later starting up the Sligo Methodist Company.

Not willing to let the session end without a bang, the leaders came together to organise a drive-through prizegiving for all their members. The leaders had a gift bag ready for each girl and these were either collected or delivered out to the families’ cars ensuring social distancing at all times.

The girls’ achievements were celebrated with badges and trophies to recognise the work completed during the year before the Girls’ Brigade meetings came to a halt. They also received some goodies in place of their end of year party.

It was a fun afternoon for all the girls, who turned out despite the heavy rain, and a lovely chance for the retiring leaders to say goodbye. They hope to reschedule their 30th anniversary celebrations in the autumn and bring everyone together again.

The new Captain is Caroline, who has been involved with Girls’ Brigade for many years. We wish her the very best and we hope that Sligo Methodist GB will still be going strong in another 30 years!
