Illness won’t stop this leader sharing talents and hope with others

Well done to 40th Company Manorhamilton leader, Clara Hewston. Clara  found a wonderful way to make the best of a period of illness, by using her talents to help others.

Over a year ago I became very ill. I needed to turn my hands to something to pass the time so I learned to knit. In the summer of 2018 I knitted 60 hairbands and I gave them to my local Team Hope depot. Team Hope place these hairbands in shoeboxes for their Christmas Shoebox Appeal and distribute them to children affected by poverty around the world.

As my illness continued and summer 2019 came, I needed another challenge! Therefore, I learned how to knit hats. At the end of July, my school principal brought the 26 woolly hats I had knitted to Tanzania. In Tanzania, it gets very cold at night during the winter. The hats were given to mothers, babies and children in a local hospital.

When I received the photos I was filled with joy! I have learned that God can use my gifts to bless others no matter what circumstances I find myself in. I always remember my favourite bible verse, Jeremiah 29 Vs. 11:

For I  know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
